Day 32 - Mount Carmel Junction, Utah

I was so happy to shake the dust of Vegas off my feet - don't think I'll be back! It's probably the most artificial place I've ever been to - no daylight, no closing time, constant noise; people were already at the slots at 8 a.m. (and I expect some of them had been there all night).
----------
Headed north-east on I-15, through the top end of the Mojave desert and through the Virgin River Gorge - very spectacular rock formations. Someone has rather scarily videoed the whole section while driving it ...
----------
St. George is a pretty little town, on the banks of the river, with lots of trees - good to see after a hundred miles of nothing but tumbleweed and Joshua trees. Turned off the freeway at Hurricane, onto US-9, and on into the Zion National Park. Here are just a few pictures of the rock formations and the river - stunning!

I'm staying at the Thunderbird Lodge for 2 days, touring as many canyons as I can manage!
----------

Just past the eastern end of Zion National Park, came across a field of these magnificent creatures, just behind a restaurant called the Buffalo Grill ...
