Day 37 - Amarillo, Texas

Econo Lodge - who knew? Maybe it's just the Eagle Nest location, but breakfast was fresh-made waffles with blackberries in the mix - delicious! Had an interesting conversation with the manager, who was born in Chicago but decided that this place was home; she tells me I am on what the Native Americans call a 'vision quest', which sounds good to me (though it's usually undertaken by adolescents - oh, wait ...!) Here's the lake from the top of the hill on the way east.

Cimarron's motto is 'Between the Rockies and the Plains' - the landscape changes rather suddenly here. Here's my last view of the Rockies (this trip, anyway).
----------
The rest of the drive today was across the prairies, though there was a sprinkling of extinct volcanoes across the landscape for the first couple of hours out of Cimarron - the first of these is Capulin, now a national monument. To Amarillo (whose signposting could be a lot better!), and Motel 6, this one with a comfy chair!

Funny sign of the day: Tome on the Range [a bookstore]
