Pictures from the Okefenokee swamp can be found here.
We did a lot of talking last night, including trying to work which years we held the informatics retreats at Point Clear (we think it was 1995, 1996 and 1997 ...)! We also reminisced about the Florabama (where we were asked to check our guns at the door), and Judge Roy Bean's, which has now sadly burnt down. I remember the billygoat eating John Zapp's cheeseburger ... and somewhere I have the photo to prove it.
Drove through very pretty southern Alabama and Mississippi countryside, all rolling hills and lots of trees. Once into Louisiana and Arkansas it is much flatter, with lots of lakes, formed when bows of the river got cut off. The state line more or less follows the meandering course of the river, but the river has moved over time though the state line has not. The weather has been very changeable today, but only a few thunderstorms; however, all along the Mississippi delta the fields and ditches are flooded. I did a lot of driving today, including crossing the magificent Mississippi twice (once at Vicksburg and then again just west of Greenville, where a beautiful new bridge is under construction.
The local accent is really hard to understand - but my waiter at dinner tonight couldn't understand me either!

I love the alligator and turtle pictures, especially the 'gator "showdown" on the bridge. The turtle is definitely looking at you curiously in one of them.
