Day 39 - St Louis, Missouri

On the way here, I have seen the biggest rocking chair in the world, lots of fireworks stores (what's that about?), and an unfeasible number of signs for Adult Video stores, along with a sprinkling of Route 66 museums dotted along the way. But the Ozarks are pretty - with lots of trees, rivers and lakes, it must be great in the summer.
----------
Driving on the interstate might be quicker, but it's (a) boring and (b) tiring! About 20 miles from St Louis the road was jammed with a convoy of school buses, staggered across all three lanes - mixed with the huge trucks this was not a fun stretch of road.
----------
I'm staying at the Hilton downtown, and plan to look at the Arch and the riverfront tomorrow morning. But now - sleeptime!

The laws regarding the sale of fireworks vary from state to state. What you can't get in one state, you can get in another, etc. I don't know what it is these days but, at one time people from Chicago had to drive down to Indiana to buy them. The 4th of July is very noisy.
As for the giant rocking chair, erm, well, it belonged to the Giant of Route 66...yeah, that's it. When he got tired of getting his kicks, he sat down in it...

One of the reason that so many people from Massachusetts (no fireworks allowed) drive to New Hampshire (fireworks allowed) in the beginning of July.
