Day 10 - Toledo, Ohio

I started really early today, as I had many miles to cover - here's the sunrise from the hotel car park. There was hardly any traffic at all on the I-75S, just beautiful rolling hills, dense forest, and very pretty clouds!

Driving through Bay City, there were many diversions because of the ubiquitous roadworks, and thus I was able to see the church of St Stanislaus Kostka (see picture here) - there are many churches all around the US thus dedicated by devout Poles. M-25, the coastal route, goes past the sugar refineries - a wonderful smell of caramel permeates the air here! Just south of here I crested the brow of a hill to find a young deer standing in the middle of the road! I slowed right down, hoping to get a quick picture of it, but a car coming the other way scared it off.

At Port Huron, it was time for lunch - and I spotted the wonderful Powers Diner, where I had an excellent burger! When I got back in the car and turned on the ignition, a flashing sign told me 'Change Oil Soon'. Uh-oh. But the car felt fine so I carried on. Traffic got busier and busier from here into Detroit, though no-one was going slower than 70 mph! Crossed 8 Mile Road north of Detroit - made famous by Eminem in the film 8 Mile.

I made the final stretch to Toledo in under an hour, and made straight for an Enterprise car rental place, where the very helpful staff arranged for the oil-change to be done there and then at Smitty's next door - took about 20 minutes - and I was also given ideas about where to eat and entertainment for the evening!
