Day 11 - Buffalo, New York

Lots of high-speed driving today - apart from Cleveland, that is - I happened to pick just the wrong time of day to get through a football-crazy town! Browns Stadium was host to a local derby - Ohio State vs Toledo, and it took me over an hour to drive about 5 miles! But it was a beautiful day, and Cleveland have a great classical music station, WCLV, which kept me entertained and stress-free.

You can see the spray from the Horseshoe Falls for miles - yes, I went to Niagara Falls - the State Park has all sorts of attractions, but I only had time for a couple. The Cave of the Winds tour involves putting on a yellow raincoat (made of very thin polythene), and descending about 17 stories in a lift, then walking around a number of very slippery staircases and walkways built all around the Falls, and sometimes over the top of the rocks at the bottom. This involves getting very very wet, so my non-waterproof camera stayed firmly under cover! But it was a lot of fun! The Maid of the Mist boat motors past the main falls and the Bridal Veil falls, and then right into the Horseshoe Falls! Again, we got to wear polythene (blue this time) and got pretty wet, but it was mostly just spray this time, and I did get lots of pictures! Looking from above, the falls are impressive, but until you get down on the water it's hard to appreciate quite how massive they are - and the sheer volume of water constantly pouring down.
